Need to relax and rejuvenate yourself? A sea kayak trip on the west coast of Vancouver Island is sure to mark you with lifelong memories.
Located on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, Clayoquot Sound is best known for its fjords, picturesque mountains, white sandy beaches and ancient temperate rainforest.
A diverse array of wildlife thrives in the area, including Roosevelt elk, black bears, wolves, cougars, orca, humpback and grey whales. Being on the edge of the West Coast, we are fortunate to be on the migratory path of multiple birds, making this area famous for its bird watching. The intertidal pools in the area are rich with invertebrates and are sure to bring out the kid in each of us.
This region of Vancouver Island comprises the largest intact virgin rainforest in Southern British Columbia. The area is home to ancient Western Red Cedars, Sitka Spruce, and Western Hemlocks. There are trees in this area that are up to 1,700 years old and 90m tall.
Clayoquot Sound is also the traditional territory of the Nuu-chah-nult and therefore is rich in Native history. Artifacts have been found and some are dated more than 6,000 years old.
Whether you are a seasoned paddler or just getting started with the sport of sea kayaking, the waters of Clayoquot Sound boast a wide array of options, ranging from calm secluded inlets to open ocean conditions. Depending on your skill level and interest, Clayoquot Sound is among the greatest sea kayaking destinations in the world. This area of Vancouver Island provides the adventurers with miles of water to explore and multiple sandy beaches to camp upon.
